The Icon software application running on any Epsilon Family Module provides a full serially-connected Wi-Fi and networking slave for mains and battery-powered devices. It is especially suitable for 8- or 16-bit processors that do not have the ability to drive other Wi-Fi chips, or for 32-bit processors which are overburdened. No longer do designers have the difficult choice of migrating their design to a higher-cost platform with a power-hungry processor or forsaking the benefits of Internet connectivity.
Icon utilizes G2's low-power technology to allow Wi-Fi enabled products to obtain multi-year battery life from standard lithium-manganese or alkaline cells. With support for UART and SPI interfaces, Icon can connect any Epsilon Family Module to almost any microprocessor. With its simple API command set, even an 8-bit processor can control it. Icon supports 802.11i security protocols and standard TCP/IP protocols including TCP, UDP, DNS and DHCP.
