Recently I visited the Consumer Electronics Show and was thrilled to see the electronics industry is thriving. Consumer electronics is hot and the masses are demanding the latest gadget. I saw many companies introducing new, innovative products that are not only fun, but help improve our lives. For example, fitness companies showed monitors, bikes, and wirelessly enabled devices all designed to help you get the most out of your work out. The healthcare industry was showing wireless scales, blood pressure monitors, and sleep aids. Home automation is absolutely exploding; the number of companies showing product has definitely reached critical mass. Wireless sensors control and monitor everything from your front door to your washing machine. All of which is linked to your Smartphone so effortlessly it’s revolutionizing home control. The success of these products is the direct result of a purposeful move from propriety wireless systems to low cost, low power, standards-based wireless that seamlessly connect devices to the consumer.
Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled devices were connected to Smartphones. Our Bluetooth products work with all Smartphones, including Apple iPhone, iPad, and Android. Many Smartphone applications can be addressed with the Bluetooth HID profile, which reminds me to draw your attention to a new controller we released called the RN-42-HID-RD1, a reference design that demonstrates the capabilities of our HID Bluetooth profile.
