GERD GOETTE
Siemens Venture Capital
Mr. Goette is a Managing Partner based in the Siemens Venture Capital Palo Alto office. He specializes in investments in energy, communications and industrial solutions. With more than 20 years of worldwide industry experience, he combines a strong technical background with wide-ranging operational skills. Prior to joining Siemens Venture Capital in September 2000, Mr. Goette held the position of Vice President and Head of CableTV Solutions in Siemens Information and Communication Networks.
Mr. Goette’s managerial and operating expertise stems from earlier focus on R&D, system integration, product line management, technical sales support, project management and general management in the fields of telecommunication equipment and solutions. Mr. Goette received a master’s degree in electrical engineering (Dipl. Ing.) from Technical University Darmstadt, Germany.
MARK RICHARDS
Accede Capital
Mr. Richards is a General Partner at Accede. Prior to this, he was a General Partner at Technology Venture Partners. Mr. Richards is a serial entrepreneur with over 18 years experience in venture-backed software and communications start-ups. He was founder and CEO of London, England based DBMX, a developer of distributed database management software which was acquired by IBM in 1997. In 1998 Mr. Richards was co-founder and angel investor in Austin, Texas based PointOne Telecommunications. PointOne subsequently raised the largest-ever venture round in Texas of over US$155 million to deploy the industry's 1st carrier-grade, nationwide VoIP network. In 2001, he co-founded and was CEO of Austin, Texas based Metreos Communications, a venture-backed start-up developing leading edge, standards-based, application and media servers that enable Fortune 500 enterprises to deploy truly converged communications services. Metreos was acquired by Cisco Systems for US$28 million in July 2006.
Mr. Richard’s previous investments have focused on the networking and communications industries. He has served on a number of Boards including Engana (acquired by NASDAQ:OPTM), ThreatMetrix, Sensory Networks, Xelor Software, and Thinkwell Corp. He holds a BSc (Honors) in Computer Science from Kingston University England.
MALCOLM THORNTON
Starfish Ventures
Mr. Thornton joined Starfish Ventures in January 2003. He started his career in venture capital in 1997 when he joined JAFCO Investment (Asia Pacific) Ltd. As an Investment Analyst and later an Investment Manager, Mr. Thornton was involved with the investment of $40 million into 13 new and follow-on investment opportunities. He was heavily involved in helping Australian portfolio companies gain access to the Japanese market and established a valuable network of business contacts in the Japanese investment and services industries. In September 2000, Mr. Thornton was appointed as Business Development Officer with Platypus Technology Inc. in the USA where he was responsible for a wide range of business development activities during their start-up.
Mr. Thornton holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Applied Science (Medical Physics) from Queensland University of Technology and a MBA from Melbourne Business School. He also completed a Monbusho Research Scholarship at the University of Okayama and University of Tokushima, in Japan. Mr. Thornton is a fluent Japanese speaker having lived and worked in Japan for over four years.
RICHARD L. SANQUINI
Mr. Sanquini is an independent board member, bringing a wealth of high technology and management experience to G2. He is the former Chairman of the Board of PortalPlayer and currently serves as a board member for a number of Silicon Valley companies. Mr. Sanquini retired from National Semiconductor after a 20 year tenure, where he served as the Chief Technology Officer, managed business development and intellectual property protection, and was the Chairman of the Board of two joint ventures in China. While at National Semiconductor, Mr. Sanquini managed key business units, including Microprocessors and Microcontrollers. In the 1990's, he developed a unique intellectual property program that produced more than 2000 patents and generated significant royalty income. Prior to National, he was President and CEO of Information Storage Devices and General Manager and Director of the memory and microprocessor businesses at RCA.
Mr. Sanquini holds a BSEE from the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Wisconsin. He currently serves on the Boards of Synaptics, Zilog, FyreStorm, LitePoint and SiPort.
JOHN GLOEKLER
G2 Microsystems
Mr. Gloekler has over 24 years experience spanning the semiconductor, software, and consulting industries. From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Gloekler held leadership positions within Ernst & Young’s supply chain practice and was a key factor in developing the practice from its initiation to over 800 people in 2002. As a partner at E&Y, Mr. Gloekler sold and delivered million dollar supply chain engagements to companies such as IBM, Compaq, Cisco, HP, Toshiba, Apple, Samsung, Chiron, and others. Prior to 1994, John was Vice President of Manufacturing for Austek Microsystems and held various roles at National Semiconductor and Texas Instruments.
GEOFF SMITH
G2 Microsystems
Mr. Smith has 26 years of experience in the semiconductor and software industries. His latest success was with Radiata Inc., a wireless startup creating silicon designs for the 802.11a wireless LAN market. Radiata was first to market with working silicon for the 802.11a standard and because of this was bought by Cisco Systems Inc. in 2001 for $US290M. Mr. Smith is a co-inventor of a patent that covers implementation in wireless LAN silicon. He is an expert in sub-micron, mixed-signal silicon chip engineering and has an up-to-date knowledge of the latest CAD tools and silicon processes available. Prior to Radiata, Mr. Smith ran a software consulting company and an internet-based company. Combining silicon expertise at the tag level with expertise in web-based applications is key to G2's technical success and Mr. Smith has experience in both areas.
