Can I write firmware on the RN-131/RN-171 WiFi module

Latest Update: January 31, 2012 11:28am

Yes,  you can write firmware on the WiFI module.

To do so requires purchasing the Software Development Kit (SDK).  You should have good C programming skills, Real time embedded experience and knowledge of networking.

The SDK (RN-G2SDK) contains the hardware and software components to develop code on underlying G2C547 SOC that is at the core of our RN-131 or RN-171  WiFi modules.

  • The hardware in the SDK includes one (1) In System Programmer (ISP) for downloading debugging firmware, one (1) IDK evaluation board which includes the RN-131 and has all the signals broken out for prototyping and developing your system hardware and all the cables and connectors to hook it up to your PC.
  • The software in the SDK includes the complete development tool suite of compilers, makefiles, python scripts, and drivers.  It also includes a royalty free license to the underlying software building blocks, LWIP, eCOS, etc  along with several sample applications that can be used to build your own application.  All the software is provided as source code which along with the documentation is located on our Jira support system.  When you buy the SDK we open up access to the Jira.  You are given a private Jira account that allows you to get all the above and log support questions.

The cost of the SDK is $2500 and include support.  Please contact Roving Networks sales for more details.
